You create an account with your email address or with Google and upload selfies in which your face is easy to see. For each photo you then choose between one and ten of those selfies. They serve as the reference for how you look in the new portrait, so sharp pictures without strong filters, taken on your own and in good light, give the AI the most to work with.
Next you pick a style. Business Studio gives a studio look, LinkedIn Modern a more relaxed business look and Dating Authentic a casual portrait. These three, plus Hijab Business Studio and Hijab LinkedIn Modern, are available for the free photo. One credit produces one photo.
Check every result for likeness and visible errors before you use it. That sounds obvious, but it is the point at which cheap generators fail: a portrait that flatters you into someone else is useless in a job application, because you have to walk into the interview afterwards. If you do not recognise yourself in a photo, it is not the right one.
What it costs
Prices are in euros and you pay once. There is no subscription and nothing renews.
- Free: your first photo, with a watermark, so you can judge the quality before spending anything.
- €4.99: two professional photos on a neutral background, about €2.50 per photo. A small test rather than a package.
- €29: twelve photos in styles such as Business Studio and LinkedIn Modern, about €2.42 per photo. This is the package recommended for an application or a LinkedIn profile.
- €79: forty photos, about €1.98 per photo, with access to the paid styles such as Outdoor City, Executive Suite, Healthcare Pro and Academic.
Why a German provider might matter to you
Most AI headshot services are American, and for most purposes that is fine. There are two situations where it is not. The first is data protection: your face is biometric information, and the law that covers it depends on who processes it. Profilfoto KI is run from Schwerte in Germany, so the GDPR applies to everything we do with your images. Your selfies are stored with Supabase in Frankfurt am Main. The image generation itself runs through Google's Gemini API in the USA under a data processing agreement, which means your photos do leave Germany for that step, and we would rather say so than imply otherwise. Uploaded selfies are deleted automatically after 90 days at the latest, and you can ask what we hold about you or have it removed.
The second is the German job market. A photo is still customary on a German CV, unlike in the United States or the United Kingdom where including one can count against you. The conventions are specific, down to the framing and the clothing, and they are not what an American tool optimises for.
If neither applies to you, judge us on the photos rather than the origin. We are a small provider, and the larger American services have more capacity than we do. What we can offer is a first photo at no cost, which makes the comparison cheap to run yourself.
Common questions
Where are my photos stored?
Your account data and images are stored with Supabase in Frankfurt am Main. To generate a portrait, the selfies you selected are sent to Google's Gemini API in the USA, so processing also takes place outside Germany. Uploaded selfies are deleted automatically after 90 days at the latest. Generated photos stay until you delete your account, and deleting it removes both.
How many selfies do I need?
For each photo you select at least one and at most ten of your uploaded selfies. You do not need a camera or a studio. Choose pictures that show your face clearly and the way you look today, with eyes, nose and mouth visible and no deep shadows across your face.
Is there a subscription?
No. You pay once for the package you choose, from €4.99 for two photos to €79 for forty, and nothing recurs.
Can I use these photos on a CV?
Yes. In Germany a photo is still customary on a CV, although it is optional and no law requires one. The important condition is that the portrait looks like you, so upload recent selfies rather than the most flattering ones you can find.
